Someone in the Czech Republic recently stole a railroad bridge, so you can assume that someone, somewhere, is stealing solar panels. But in over a decade in this business, we’ve never actually heard from anyone who had theirs swiped.
Solar systems themselves are expensive, but the modules are only part of the cost. They’re also pretty tough to sell on the black market since most solar customers are looking for really reputable-seeming providers. And the panels are hard to get to…they’re way up on the roof, they’re cumbersome to lug around, and they require some special tools to remove. It’s way easier–and more lucrative–to steal cars, computers, jewelry, just about anything. Chances are, you’re extremely safe. But in the event of something very bizarre, hey, there’s insurance!
